Ballymagarvey Village: The Ultimate Guide to a Private Fairytale Wedding

Ballymagarvey Village is more than just a venue; it is a meticulously restored 18th-century flax mill village in the heart of Co. Meath that feels like a private world created entirely for celebration. Located just 40 minutes from Dublin, it offers the perfect blend of historic charm, relaxed luxury, and effortless style. Newly renovated country house with on-site accommodation for 80 guests, separate reception rooms, cosy bar and banquet hall in the converted millers’ cottages.  As a Dublin wedding photographer, I’ve seen how this venue captures a unique “private village” feel. Everything here is high-end yet completely unpretentious, allowing for a wedding that is refined without being stiff, and elegant without losing its warmth.

The Journey: Your Wedding Day Timeline

1. Morning Preparations

The day begins in the mirror-filled Bridal Prep room and the Courtyard cottages. These spaces are bright, airy, and designed for champagne toasts and candid hair-and-makeup shots. The Manor House provides a grand, historic backdrop for those final portraits before you head to the ceremony.

2. The Ceremony

You have two incredible options to say “I do”:Indoor: The Mill Loft, a restored stone building with exposed beams and flax rugs, offering a romantic, rustic atmosphere.Outdoor: Gwenllian’s Garden or the manor lawns, where you can exchange vows with the Victorian house and rolling Meath countryside behind you.

3. Drinks Reception & Portraits

After the “I dos,” guests move to the Conservatory and garden patio. This glass-filled space overlooks the lake and waterfall. While your guests enjoy canapés and music, we slip away to the hidden pathways, old stone walls, and the lake jetty for natural, storytelling photography.

4. The Banquet & Evening Party

As the sun sets, guests are called into the Banqueting Hall. This high-ceilinged barn with wrought-iron chandeliers and massive windows feels both grand and cosy. When the music starts, the built-in stage and large bar keep the energy on the dance floor, while others can retreat to outdoor fire pits under thousands of fairy lights.

PERSONAL TOUCHES :

A wedding is a couple’s one opportunity to tell the story of their romance and I have some advice on making a venue your own. Themes, personal cocktails and dress codes tie everything together. But more importantly, guests love to know more about a couple. Weddings are all about love-so personalise everything with the story of you, those you love, those you’ve lost and even your parents on the same day, years before.

PLANNING MISTAKE :

Keeping things casual and didn’t hire a stylist for your New Year’s Eve celebration? Could be a mistake! Hire pro stylists like Blu Blossom Creative or Pairs and Peaches to transform the space into a cosy, candlelit wonderland on that dark December evening that could blow you away and make the whole thing feel so much more special. Not only did it look pretty, but she also set the space up in a way that made much more sense and was comfier for everyone.

Wedding photographer, you need to find a photographer you trust. Share your vision on how you want to narrate your wedding day to see if it’s a good fit for you. They must also have the experience to document and capture the unique and unrepeatable moments. Check the experience they have. Look for reviews online, a good way to check it is their google reviews as they are written by real couples. All of this can lead to a smoother run of your photography and a whole day celebration. Sometimes is better to let the photographer decide on the location and style, this is why you hire a professional.
